To be included in such wise company is humbling, Tim. I am so glad we connected here - Thank you for making me a part of your healing journey. For those interested in my personal reflections Substack, you can find it here: https://theinviolateself.substack.com/
THIS: I had no other choice but to read. It contained everything I was looking for but had not found elsewhere.
Rebecca’s work changed everything I once thought, on a very profound level, was fundamentally flawed about myself.
I still find myself picking up my dog eared, highlighted copy in moments of doubt, because she is there to remind me that I was a good kid who deserved a far better start in life.
THAT knowledge propelled me into immediate action to truly make the changes necessary to heal (which is going to be a lifelong unlearning process.)
I embraced my behavior modification exercises with gusto. I started saying words like, “No” and walking away without feeling guilty for not over explaining myself.
I overheard a woman who doesn’t know my name refer to me as “a bitch.” Good. I’d rather be known to a stranger as “a bitch” than a human doormat. I don’t need approval from anyone anymore. This is 💥 and it arrived just when I needed it most.
I’m also grateful for your contribution to survivors. I’m following your articles and you have helped me a great deal as well. Thank you 🙏
